Westville at a glance

Originally a farm, the suburb was formed in 1847 and named in honour of British lieutenant-governor, Martin West. From 1848 to 1956 it became the settlement of German immigrants.

Westville Palmiet Nature Reserve

Bergtheil Museum 

Westville’s oldest building, built in circa 1840 is now the location of the Bergtheil Museum. Encapsulating a rich German history, it focuses on the first settlers of Westville that were brought into the region by Jonas Bergtheil, the Director of the Natal Cotton Company. The museum chronicles these settlers and their contribution to the development of the suburb through artefacts, photographs and records. For school and family outings, Bergtheil offers guided tours and museum walkabouts that provide an informative and insightful adventure into the development of the suburb, its local culture and the lives of the settlers.

Westville Country Club

Westville is renowned for its sporting, social and dining-out experiences that are upheld through a selection of venues. The Westville Country Club is one such example, and houses a wealth of activities under one-roof, including eight squash courts, a bar and entertainment area, a cafe, conference centre, and cycling centre and fitness centre. The country club opened in 1968 and has since evolved into one of the most beloved entertainment spots where family and friends can meet while enjoying braais, cocktails or a high-paced game of squash.

Westville Mall

Exuding style, elegance and variety, Westville Mall sits in the heart of the suburb and provides a family friendly shopping experience. Some of the stores and food outlets include, Woolworths, Checkers, Clicks, Kauai and Rocomama’s. The mall is conveniently accessed from both the N3 and M13 freeways.

The Pavilion

Placing Westville in a league of its own is the regional shopping centre, The Pavilion. It opened its doors in 1993 and has since, evolved into Durban’s leading retail precinct. Identified by its iconic dome shape, the mall houses 255 national and international retail outlets, 40 restaurants and food outlets, 11 Nu Metro theatres, 1 4DX theatre and a brand new Virgin Active. Westville Village Market

Situated on Westville’s Jan Hofmeyer Road is the Westville Village Market. Although small, the mall is ideal for a quick shopping session and includes essential stores such as Clicks, Pick n Pay and Pick n Pay Clothing, with eateries including Ninos and John Dorys.
