History 

Sherwood is named after the 45th Regiment of Foot of the British army that was stationed in the area during the 19th century. Known as the Sherwood Foresters, they cut through a hill with picks and shovels and the site is still known as "45th cutting" today.

Sherwood is 26 minutes from King Shaka International Airport, which is 36,1 km via the N2 and 9 minutes from Durban's bustling CBD (6,6 km) via the N3. The Durban beachfront is 11 km away.

Education 

Finding great schooling in Sherwood is an easy task. The area is saturated with quality daycares and primary schools. Notably among the best are Sherwood Primary School, Step Ahead Montessori School and Harrington-Thorn Pre-Primary School. The area also has a Sherwood Children's Centre where Birdwood School is housed, catering to remedial learners from grades 00-7. The schooling system is an inclusive one and you can also find The Christian High School and Madrasah Islahul Muslimeen Junior and Senior Primary Schools. There are separate madrasah campuses for boys and girls. Parents can also send their children to surrounding schools in Westville at their convenience.
